"If you're going to play it out of tune, then play it out of tune properly." - Mark E Smith

The Fall singer Mark E Smith has died aged 60, the band's manager,

Pam Vander, has said. Her official statement was posted to Facebook this afternoon:

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mark E. Smith. He passed this morning at home. A more detailed statement will follow in the next few days. In the meantime, Pam & Mark’s family request privacy at this sad time.

Smith formed the Fall in 1976 in and was the only constant member of the band (of the 66 different members throughout its existence due to Smith's frequent firings).

In August, the band cancelled several shows after Smith was hospitalized for issues relating to his throat, mouth, and respiratory system. His death was previously wrongly announced by the BBC in March last year on his 60th birthday, but the news has now been confirmed in an official statement.

Known for his love of soccer and also his incoherent speech, many across the internet know Smith for famously once reading match results on the BBC.
