A pet store in Alabama is appealing to the public for help after a woman was spotted allegedly stealing a ferret from their store late last month. B&B Pet Stop, located in Mobile, took to Facebook on August 29th to share screenshots of their security footage showing a woman with a ferret in her shopping cart.

The woman, wearing a green shirt and glasses, was accompanied by three small children, and took all of them and the ferret into the bathroom together. When they emerged, the shopping cart was empty, and the ferret was nowhere to be seen. She then left the store and drove off in a red truck.

TikTokers @couplagoofs, one of whom is from Mobile, shared the tale of this saga in a now-viral video. Morgan explains that B&B Pet Stop’s policy is to display animals in easily-accessible containers that any adult can take the lid off of. The store explains in their Facebook post, “For the last 42 years, it’s been our philosophy to keep the animals accessible to our customers so you can pet them and have fun here.”

Mobile residents are understandably up in arms about this heist. As Morgan explains, “People I haven’t talked to in years are posting things like, ‘Good morning to everyone except the girl who stole the ferret from B&B Pet Stop,’ or ‘Can’t wait for this criminal to be behind bars.’”

The alleged perpetrator, who has been identified, says that she didn’t steal the ferret and is simply being accused because she was the last person seen with it. When asked what happened to the creature, she said something along the lines of, “I don’t know, wasn’t my problem.” The pet store has turned all of her information over to the Mobile Police Department.

For her part, Morgan at least is convinced that the woman is guilty based on her social media posts alone: “I’m seeing the other things she’s sharing and I’m thinking, ‘This is the act of someone who is a criminal against ferrets.’ I think she could commit a ferret crime.”
