Though no carrier has managed to outdo the Alaska Airlines’ incident in which an improperly-sealed door flew off at 16,000 feet, United Airlines came pretty damn close this week when a wheel fell off one of their aircraft moments after take off.

On Thursday, an Osaka, Japan-bound flight out of San Francisco International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing after one of the airplane’s landing gear tires managed to come loose and fall into a nearby parking lot.

Fortunately, no bystanders on the ground nor passengers aboard the Boeing 777-200 were hurt in the incident or the plane’s subsequent arrival at Los Angeles International Airport.

"The aircraft is designed to land safely with missing or damaged tires," United told local news outlet KTVU, noting that all 235 passengers headed to their destination in a different aircraft.

So take it from these annoyed United Flyers: Next time you hit the friendly skies, you may want to shove an aviation-grade wrench in your carry-on.
