With the sudden passing of one of the cinema's most iconic leading men today, many were quick to pay tribute to Ray Liotta and the indelible impact he left on film. Having spent decades working on many roles beyond the prototypical gangster character he became synonymous with, Liotta's death has brought an outpouring of sadness and heartfelt grief over his loss.
Not Ray

Ray Liotta could play in Good Fellas as a vicious gangster and could play as a lovable character in the Muppets. He was amazing actor, man, and great friend. pic.twitter.com/2hzErLHKO3

I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray.

I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same…Ray Liotta. pic.twitter.com/3gNjJFTAne
Liotta reportedly passed away in his sleep in the Dominican Republic at the age of 67, dying in his sleep. The actor was there working on an upcoming film, Dangerous Waters. He is survived by his fiancee, Jacy Nittolo; his adult daughter and actress Karsen Liotta, and his sister Linda Liotta Matthews.
I can’t believe Ray Liotta has passed away. He was such a lovely, talented and hilarious person. Working with him was one of the great joys of my career and we made some of my favorite scenes I ever got to be in. A true legend of immense skill and grace.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Ray Liotta’s passing. Beyond the tough guy exterior and the tightly wound emotions of his signature characters, he was a sweet, playful and passionate collaborator and brilliant actor. RIP. pic.twitter.com/O5tueLlBMP

Ray Liotta has died. His work as an actor showed his complexity as a human being. A gentle man. So sad to hear.

Ray Liotta. Man. Just met dude for the first time last year. GREAT actor. Nice to have had a chance to say that to him. RIP.

Liotta lives on in his memory and through the many hours of film he leaves behind; performances that, according to Liotta, only came to be because a pretty girl had happened to say he give plays a shot in college. Otherwise, he told the Guardian last year, he "thought he'd be in construction."
