Gen Z humor doesn’t always translate to the masses.

While jokes about “un-aliving yourself” may have been seen as uncouth in previous generations, now, you can’t scroll through TikTok without seeing a clip of a teenager saying that Taylor Swift not coming to their hometown has made them consider the noose.

Understandably, when these bits hit the mainstream, they don’t always go over well. Case in point: A dude named Toby Moore, who was caught on a hot mic during a high school soccer match saying that the game made him want to throw himself off a bridge — while also chatting about how hot he finds soccer moms.

In the clip, he says that the first half of the game made him “want to do a header off the top of the press box,” though he notes that “unfortunately it’s too low” to actually off him.

“My mind kind of flicked the ‘kill-me-now switch’ at about 30 minutes in,” he said in the commentary. “If they are just gonna keep kicking the damn ball out of bounds and missing passes all day, I may as well just go home. It’s like they aren’t even trying to pass. They’re just chucking the ball downfield. A little technique will be nice. What the hell are they teaching these kids in practice? It’s unbelievable."

Moore had the good sense to not say these thoughts publicly, noting, “This conversation never happened, by the way. We’d get in trouble. I would have never had this conversation if [inaudible name] was sitting in that chair. We’ve been around long enough. We know what we’re doing,” per Fox News.

Unfortunately for Moore, the mic was live, meaning that the dozens of fans who were watching this local high school women’s soccer match were able to hear everything he just said.

He has since apologized for his statements, writing, “I would like to apologize to the Rose Hill and McPherson schools, players, coaches, families and communities for my remarks last Saturday. They were tasteless, stupid and inexcusable. Those comments did not reflect the tremendous season and hard work both sides had during the year. Thank you to KSHSAA and NFHS for allowing me the privilege to call games on their network. I sincerely and deeply apologize for my tasteless and hurtful remarks and ask forgiveness from those that were hurt by my words.”

It would seem, however, that these statements spelled the end of his high school announcing career, as “the NFHS Network assured KSHSAA on Tuesday that the individuals and other press box personnel involved in the conversation will no longer be affiliated with any Kansas postseason games for the NFHS Network,” according to Fox News.

Thankfully for Moore, even though his comments were a bit skeezy, it seems that the internet has his back, with many people simply grateful for the fact that he wasn’t a pedophile. Regardless, Moore will likely suffer additional career consequences for this. It just goes to show that, if you’re wearing a mic, you should always assume that someone can hear you.
