Older readers might remember when Reddit was truly a cesspit — not as bad as 4chan, but still home to several unpleasant subs where very sad and lonely people could congregate and be awful together. Changes at the top led to policy changes that led to the site adopting stricter rules on which subreddits would and wouldn’t be allowed to stay on the site, leading to more and more subreddits being banned in the past decade.

All of that is to say that another warrior has fallen in battle: r/GoonCaves is no more.

The subreddit was a dedicated space where fans of gooning could congregate and share photos of their “Goon Caves,” aka more disturbing versions of “Man Caves” where they have entire setups designed to facilitate the maximum amount of gooning humanly possible. According to the message shown when attempting to view the subreddit, it was banned due to the sharing of “non-consensual intimate media,” which isn’t remotely surprising for a sub dedicated to sharing your porn viewing setup.

404 Media spoke to one of the moderators via private message. Aussiepornaddict told them that they weren’t sure why the sub was banned and are trying to figure it out. They added, “Unfortunately there are a minority who have to ruin it for everyone by posting something questionable or illegal.” Reddit declined to comment.

Prior to its removal, the subreddit had more than 80,000 members, but it was dwarfed by r/GOONED (1.4 million members) and is dedicated to gooning in general, rather than sharing photos of Goon Caves specifically. It was previously banned several months ago for being unmoderated, but was restored and now has a 10-person strong moderation team.

Maybe other gooning spaces will allow r/GoonCaves members to share photos of their setups. Either way, in the words of one erudite Redditor, “NO. NO. 1984. REDDIT IS A FUCK. MILLIONS OF DEAD GOONERS. GOONPHOBIA HAS WON. REDDIT HAS FALLEN.”
