Great news for those looking to save hundreds of dollars on perfume – your latest splurge probably smells like decomposing bodies.

On Monday, April 24, makeup influencer and mortuary cosmetology enthusiast @katescosmeticcorner took to the platform with an alarming revelation – Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry Eau De Perfume, which retails for $570, is more than just aggressively overpriced, serving as a dead ringer (no pun intended) for the scent of decaying cadavers.

“The curse of having your cosmetics as your special interest is knowing that Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry smells like corpses,” she explained in her clip.

@katescosmeticcorner then recounted how she first stumbled upon this terrifying information, scrolling across an older video from another creator detailing the creepy reason why she disliked Bath and Body Works’ Sweet Cherry Crisp fragrance.

“The scent was really off-putting to her because it has this smell that’s very similar to what she called ‘sweet cadaver,’” she explained. “She said it’s like this oddly, like sickly sweet body smell that cadavers give off.”

Intrigued by the creator’s remarks, @katescosmeticcorner said she was “sent down a rabbit hole” attempting to figure out the aforementioned cadaver scent, a journey that led her to “benzaldehyde,” a common food and fragrance additive used for its likeness to almonds and cherries that is strangely similar to formaldehyde, which is used to preserve bodies.

Unfortunately for Tom Ford, she explained, two of Lost Cherry’s defining notes include cherry and almond, a sentiment she confirmed after asking the mortuary workers on Reddit.

“I took to Reddit and I asked people who have worked in cadaver labs to compare the smell of Tom Ford's Lost Cherry to cadaver smell and they said ‘yeah, it has this oddly sweet, bitter cherry almond smell, much like Lost Cherry,’” she shared.
