In general, you’re not supposed to tow a car that has people in it. That said, it still happens — someone falls asleep in an illegally parked car then wakes up 20 minutes away in a lot where they have to pay to leave. Not a great way to start your Monday morning!
As implied by the previous example, this typically happens by accident. However, an indignant tower in need of their towing fix can just wake up one day and decide, “You know what? I’m going to tow a car today, no matter who’s inside.”
This San Francisco tower tried to do this very thing — in the middle of traffic.

In the video, a tower can be seen lining his vehicle up for a tow. The only problem is that there are people in the car behind him who really, really would rather not be towed. This leads to a cat-and-mouse game where the tower attempts to back up and pick up a car, while the car avoids the tow hitch and lays on the horn.
Naturally, as this happened in the city, the entire interaction is accompanied by a chorus of “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?” Love this country!
According to SF Gate, no one knows why exactly this all went down, and by the end of the video, the tow truck drives away unsuccessful in his mission.
So if you’re driving in San Francisco, be wary of this rogue tow truck driver — and maybe just don’t have a car in the first place.
