Earlier this week, someone in Vancouver tried to land a seaplane. Unfortunately, they managed to do the one thing you’re *really not supposed to do* when landing a plane on water: hitting a boat.

Now, one would think that it would be pretty easy to avoid a boat while landing a seaplane. After all, this isn’t like an airport, where a plane only has a few set tracks upon which they can land. This is a seaplane — meaning, theoretically, your landing strip is wherever you goddamn please.

Despite this, someone took their seaplane into the air, then smacked it straight into a boat.

According to the CBC, there’s a bit of a dispute over who is really at fault here. Pro-boat people said that a seaplane needs to be more cautious about where it chooses to land, while pro-plane people state that, as boats are more maneuverable, the boaters should have known to get the hell out of the way once they saw a plane coming toward them.

Regardless of who’s at fault, we’re happy to say that everyone involved is okay — though both the plane and the boat have seen better days. The crash is also currently being investigated by local police, so if there’s an update in the great battle of boat versus plane, we’ll be sure to let you know.
