As of Sunday, TikTok will be banned in the United States. The real reason for this ban ranges from “we can’t stand another country being better than us at something” to “Facebook wants all of your data instead” — though the law’s stated reason is that the app presents a security risk (despite the current president having an account on it).


Naturally, TikTokers are pretty pissed off about this. As a result, they’ve decided that not only do they not care about the Chinese government having access to their data, but instead, they’re going to migrate to the most Chinese app possible: RedNote, or Xiaohongshu.


More similar to Instagram than TikTok (Douyin is China’s TikTok), RedNote has long been popular with Chinese Gen Zers and millennials. Now, this group is welcoming their American brethren with open arms, encouraging them to start posting on the app and even developing memes about being “Chinese spies who want all your data.” Haha, good joke — right?
