Back in July of 2018, YouTuber PaymoneyWubby uploaded a video showing the absolute cringefest that is the Musical.ly app. The video was a critique of the App which showcased the extreme levels of inappropriate content submitted by minors, as well as the general cringeness of content generated by the app.
Fast forward a month and a half later, and this YouTuber's biggest video has been deleted off YouTube for "copyright infringement" by none other than the app's Parent company.
In a less-than-surprising move, YouTube once again has decided to side with a Company, rather than protect a content creator on their platform / free speech / fair use, even as defined by their own community guidelines.
Check out the emotional and heartfelt response issued by PaymoneyWubby below:
On top of having his most popular video removed, PaymoneyWubby now also has a copyright strike on his channel for a commentary / critique video which seemling complied with all of YouTube's requirements for "fair use".
To add further insult to injury, hundreds if not thousands of videos, (seemingly ripped directly from the Musically App) exist on youtube with no indication of removal or repercussion.
Is this just a case of YouTube blindly siding with a company over a content creator, or just a *minor* misunderstanding?
Are algorithms and bot moderated content unjustly flagging videos, or is this just a simple case of a corporation attacking an individual for negatively reviewing their "product"?
Could this be an indication that the tides are shifting on platforms such as YouTube from in favor of the content creator to corporate interests and sponsorships?
UPDATE: The original video has be reinstated, presumably after the backlash from it being removed.
