ok so i just overheard a fellow employee (who happens to be black) claiming that black friday is a racist remark and the day should have a different name.  i personally hate when people have to make things racist and wanted to inform this woman on the origin of black friday.  so a couple of keystrokes and a wiki search later i found that the term "Black Friday"  originated in philidelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day.  more recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which the retailers are in the black (i.e. turning a profit)

i then kindly explained to this woman the above facts.  she told me i didn't know "what in da hell" i was talking about.  so i say this.  screw you and screw your racist views.  if you don't get rid of them, then the world will never change.
