What the hell is wrong with women today? I understand that the world can be a scary place. But not every guy is out to rob you, rape you, kidnap you or any other horrifying thing.

Yes I am aware that incomprehensible things happen. Yes I believe women should be on guard. Yes I know that 'you don't know me'. But COME ON!!!

I'm sitting on my back porch having a cigarette. I see a woman getting out of her car in her work uniform. She opens the trunk and takes out (or tries to anyway) her purse, 4 bags of groceries, a case of beer and a 50lb bag of dog food. I have seen this woman several times as she parks right behind my sliding glass door. She has seen me before as well, we have even waved to each other. I have never spoken to her but it's kind of obvious that I live right fucking HERE!!!

Being the gentleman that I am raising my son to be (hopefully) I trot across the little back yard I have and offer to take the dog food and the case of beer from her. "Here, let me help you with that," I say. "No, I'm fine I can do it myself," is the response I get. "I was watching you struggle with this from my porch, please, let me help you." Sounds gentlemanly wouldn't you say? "If you don't leave me alone I'll yell for my husband." What??? Are you fucking kidding me??? "Suit yourself," I tell her.

Watching her walk 50 yards to her apartment with all that crap was rather entertaining really. I don't think I'm a scary looking man, I'm not very big, not imposing, without a threatening demeanor.

Fifty years ago she would have looked at me and thought that I was the biggest jerk on the planet if I DIDN'T offer to help her. Now I'm a jerk BECAUSE I offered help.

Women listen up!!! Yes you should always be careful, yes you should not trust strangers, yes you should be wary. But, look at your surroundings, think logically here. Is a guy who approaches you in the dark in the near empty Wal-Mart parking lot a threat? YES!!! Is the guy sitting on his porch and watching a woman struggle and offers help a threat? PROBABLY NOT!!!

Cut us some slack.
