I was watching part of Obama's speech last night. His speech last night to all the compliant crowds seemed fitting for a man that reminds me more of a spiritual leader than an actual president. Yes it was impressive to see so many Americans inspired by the man. It was also good to see the election come to an end. And I sincerely hope that Obama does a good job and has a successful presidency. But, at the same time, I already cannot stand the man for one reason in particular: his flair for the dramatic. Seeing Americans chant “Yes we can” every time he did scared me, and it should scare a lot of Americans. For all the talk of the similarities between Bush and Hitler, Obama's meteoric rise to the public stage and his command of a crowd already is closer to Hitler than Bush ever was. Of course, Obama isn't Hitler and he never will be, but the cult of personality surrounding the man has made America putty in the hands of the Democratic party.

One particular aspect about Obama's speech that bothered me, and has really been the center of his campaign (and the Democratic party), has been his call for progress. He talked about how America saved democracy in World War II, fought racism, and helped to bring down Communism. America, for these things, are great in Obama's eyes – which surely we all can understand, but to him they are not enough. He goes on to say that he will bring tremendous change to the American government and American politics. I find it funny that, to him, America is so great but yet requires so much change. I don't think that, in his eyes, America is a great country. That is one of the basic tenants of the Democrat worldview: blame America first. If there is terrorism in the world, it's probably America's fault. Racism is America's problem, and only America's problem. If there is poverty, then it's America's fault. It is always good to reach for great things, but the job of the American government is not to set the tone for these things. The job of the American government is to protect rights and people, not to be a bunch of activists trying to save the world. The government is not your nanny and it's not there to ensure that you have full employment, a home, food in your stomach, and everyone is socially equal. The character of the American people and their dedication to individual rights, capitalism, faith and their loyalty to country has made America great and will continue to do so – with or without Obama.
