1.
Blocking certain websites. 6500 websites including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are unavailable to normal Chinese people. -
2.
Censoring commercials and TV shows. Chinese commercial must avoid foreign words and use traditional words instead, if you use a popular American slogan and it makes to TV someone will surely notice and you will be taken out with the commercial. Also shows like Big Bang Theory are banned, and accounts like USAFTW are deleted. -
3.
DDoS attacks. In 2015 Chinese hackers attacked GreatFire.org and GitHub because they fight against censorship. Of course the government of China pretends to not know of these attacks. -
4.
Disappearing posts. These posts are not deleted, they are invisible to everyone else than the poster so he thinks nothing happened to his post. Pretty devious... -
5.
... but not as devious as this: jail. Yes, people get arrested for many things including twitter posts. Zhai Xiaobing was arrested in 2012 and the Nobel Prize winner Liu Xiaobo was also arrested, to name a few. -
6.
Game and music must be approved by censors. Battlefield 4 got banned cause it "showed China in bad light". -
7.
Blocking words from search engines. Certain words leave no results, to name "truth" in 2012. For example a politician Bo Xilai was involved a scandal and suddenly Chinese search engines showed "no results" when people googled his name. -
8.
Self-censoring. People don't know what is accepted and what is a ticket to jail they warn each other to "tone down" or "change the subject". -
9.
You maybe seen posts saying China is not the bad guy? That's because Chinese government pay 50 cents a post. These trusted people must write good things about China, bad things about America and claim democracy and capitalism are impossible to have at the same time. -
10.
And we come to the most insane weapon on Chinese government- turning off the whole internet. Yep, they can do that and did in 2009 in Sinciang Province where about 20 million people were cut off the web for a year.
