THE 2016 NOBEL PRIZE WINNER IN ECONOMICS. In an effort to impress Lisa, Millhouse predicts that Bengt Holmstrom would win for Economics. The episode was in 2010 and Holmstrom was named a joint winner 6 years later. -

THE THREE-EYED FISH. We all know and love Blinky, who was caught by Bart in a 1990 episode. In 2011, Argentine fishermen pulled out a three-eyed little guy in a reservoir near a nuclear power plant. -

A BABY TRANSLATOR. In a 1992 episode, Homer’s half-brother, Herb, creates a baby-babble translation device. Fast-forward 23 years later, an app called the Infant Cries Translator claimed to translate your child’s babble into real speech. -

A SNAKE-KILLING SPREE. In this 1993 episode, Lisa is upset with the town’s annual tradition of hunting and killing overpopulated snakes. In 2013 in, of course, the Florida Everglades, a real whack-a-reptile contest was sanctioned to curb the area’s abundance of Burmese pythons. -

THE LEMON TREE THIEF. Bart and his friends are confused by the disappearance of a lemon tree in Springfield in this 1995 episode. In 2013, a Houston woman was puzzled by the disappearance of her own lemon tree after it was stolen. -

HORSE MEAT. In the 1994 episode “Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song,” it’s discovered that Lunchlady Doris makes the school lunches using giant tubs of horse parts. In 2013, multiple food producers in France, the UK, and Sweden were found to have distributed products that contained horse meat, which they didn’t disclose on their packaging. -

THE FIFA CORRUPTION SCANDAL. In a 2014 episode, Homer is petitioned by the head of a soccer league to help create a better image for them after corruption allegations emerge. The next year, FIFA had a scandal involving the arrest of 7 executives for abusing their positions for financial gain. -

THE DON MATTINGLY HAIR SCANDAL. A 1992 episode featured Mattingly being kicked off Mr. Burns’ softball team because of his long hair. A month after voicing himself in the cartoon, Mattingly was fined $250 by the Yankees for refusing to cut his hair. -

COOKING GREASE HEISTS. Homer and Bart were way ahead of the times in the 1999 episode where they attempt a cooking grease heist at the school’s cafeteria. In 2008, “fryer grease has become gold” according to The New York Times and a criminal had siphoned nearly 2500 gallons from a NorCal Burger King. -
