It has been 23 years since Wayne’s World took the world by storm. It’s hard to come by comedies of this caliber these days so it’s always good to take a stroll down memory lane. Here are a few facts that you probably didn’t know about Wayne’s World.

Director Penelope Spheeris and Mike Myers didn’t get a long during the filming and didn’t settle their differences until 17 years later.

Wayne’s World cost $14 million to make and made $122 million at box office.

Initially, Mike Myers did not want Dana Carvey to play the role of Garth for fear that he would be upstaged by the more established comedian.

Dana Carvey and Mike Myers had a falling-out after Carvey blamed Myers for stealing his Dr. Evil impression used in Austin Powers.

Myers’ girlfriend, Robin Ruzan, was cast as a waitress. They eventually got married in 1993 and divorced in 2006.

Dana Carvey loosely based the character of Garth on his real life brother, Brad.

Myers created Wayne Campbell before “SNL,” when he was still in high school. He actually played Wayne on a Canadian comedy series called “It’s Only Rock & Roll.”

Paramount Pictures believed that fans of The Addams Family would be the core demographic for Wayne’s World, so they shot a trailer that was specifically played during the previews of The Addams Family.

Mike Myers wanted Wayne’s World to be about a local cable access show because hosting one was a lifelong dream of his.

Filming took only 34 days to complete.

Wayne’s World was actually an SNL spin-off. It performed better than any other spin-off movie, including Blues Brothers and Night at the Roxbury.

Lee Tergesen, who played Terry, Wayne and Garth’s cameraman, made his film debut in “Wayne’s World.” He later became known as one of the stars in the hit HBO series, ‘Oz.’

Wayne’s World even inspired a video game to be made.

Wayne’s World 2 was expected to be as big as a hit as the first film, but fell short of it’s goal and only grossed $48 Million.

During the famous car hood scene, Mike Myers is really laughing because of how exhausted he was after the extremely long days of filming.
