Dating is hard because dating, like a service job, involves people. And people, as any perusal of daytime television, will show you, suck. People are terrible. We are weird, perspective-warped, tired, entitled, and not big on the whole 'acting like a rational adult' thing.

Thus, many dating apps have become less about forming genuine connections with people you otherwise would never have crossed paths with, and more a mobile game where the goal is to solve the puzzle and be rewarded with another dangerous adult willing to share their genitals with you.

And, like all things in life, some people are better at solving puzzles than others.
