When we think of priests, nuns, and monks, we picture a quiet, pious life of duty and devotion. 

We never expect to see these pillars of morality doing anything except praying, serving the community and generally doing boring, good things.

Really, all the things that even a normal moral person might hesitate to do. These people truly believe they might go to the underworld for this, but they’re willing to pay the price if they get to look this sick.
