Joe Mayer from Cincinnati decided to take everything he could from his diesel VW Golf before returning the car to the dealer in exchange for compensation. The story is about a “flawed” car with a TDI engine which became a reason for a huge scandal around Volkswagen. In US the concern decided to buy out all the flawed cars from anyone willing to sell them, with a criterion that the car has to be able to move on its own using the TDI engine. This made some Americans take something from their cars for themselves before taking the compensation, to sell the parts. Mayer went even further and took almost everything from the car’s interior except the rear-view mirror, which he needs to get to the dealer next block to him.
