Barkus - the Mardi Gras parade

That went to the dogs (and cats.... goats, pigs, ferrets, bunnies- anything goes at Mardi Gras- I mean Barkus). There's royalty (and a fancy pawty at an iconic restaurant - for the court).

A past king gets his treat at the presentation ceremony-

The Krewe of Barkus goes to the dogs- literally. The royal court is always made of the best rescue stories-

The queen was abused (kicked and thrown) by the children of her previous owners. Her leg was so badly broken it had to be amputated. She now resides in the lap of luxury, being preened and pampered (though she does still cower and is sometimes easily spooked)

The royal court is taken to lunch and the introductions at a very upscale and iconic restaurant (past royalty)

The reigning king - a few months ago, this dog was living on the street and eating rocks for minerals, he was so emaciated they didn;t think he would survive. He had three surgeries to remove the rocks and now resides in a mansion on the garden district

Security lines the streets for the occasional cat/dog tiff

The parade features floats, bands and lots of pets

And there is always a grand Marshall
