Soldiers who have returned home wearing the scars of their sacrifice. When they couldn’t find the words to describe their suffering, their wounds told the story for them.

Bobby Henline suffered horrific burns when he was trapped inside his vehicle after being hit by a roadside bomb in Iraq. -

Two days after September 11th 2001, Thomas Young enlisted in the US Army. He was shot in the spine and paralyzed five days after landing in Iraq. He died in 2014 after suffering from complications from his injuries. -

Bobby Bernier’s unit was hit by a surprise artillery attack. He suffered burns to 60 percent of his body. He is pictured holding his daughter with the reminiscence of his scared tissue exposed. -

Whilst driving a M1 Abrams tank, Jerral Handcock was stuck by a roadside bomb. He lost one arm to the flames and was paralyzed from the waist down when shrapnel severed his spinal cord. He is pictured here holding one of his two children. -

Joel Tavera lost his sight and one leg fighting in Iraq. He has had over 90 surgeries to repair his damaged body. -

Staff Sergeant Shilo Harris and his driver were the only survivors as their truck hit a roadside bomb in 2007. Harris’ body was engulfed in flames as he escaped the vehicle. -

US Army 1st Lt Jason Pak lost both legs when an IED hit his 12 man patrol in Afghanistan. Pak took almost all of the impact of the blast. -

Navy Seal Bo Reichenbach was injured in July 2014 by a makeshift bomb in Afghanistan. He came home to his four-year-old son in a wheelchair after his legs were amputated. -

Army Corporal David Bixler received a Silver Star for stopping an Afghan solider from stepping on a IED. Bixler took the brunt of the blast that flew him into the air. Upon landing he realized that both his legs were gone. -

Sergeant Adam Hartswick was a medic and lost both legs as he was helping treat the wounded in Afghanistan. He is now in virtual-reality therapy to learn to walk again. -
12.
Marine Corporal Christian Brown dragged a wounded soldier 1,000 feet to get him to the safety of a hovering helicopter. Four days later he was hit by an IED and lost both his legs to the blast.
