Massive New Cyclone Discovered on Jupiter

This photo, taken in 2017, shows six cyclones that have arranged themselves into a pentagonal shape on Jupiter's south pole. The Juno spacecraft is currently orbiting Jupiter and it's Jovian Infrared Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) instrument takes photos like the one above using an imager and spectrometer to measure the planet's infrared wavelengths. -

This photo, which was taken in November 2019, shows a small cyclone in the bottom right corner joining the six cyclones to make a hexagonal shape around the massive central storm. The new cyclone is around the size of Texas. -

The color of the previous photos, and this one, aren't accurate - Jupiter isn't red and firey like the Sun or blue. It is actually an orange color, but the instruments that photograph Jupiter show different colors to highlight to the differences in atmosphere (storms) on the planet.
