This meme was originally a comic by Brazilian artist Fabio Coala in his Mentirihas series posted on June 16th, 2012. The comic shows a boy asking for his father's attention but is repeatedly denied until the last panel where the son is seen wearing a hoodie and smoking a cigarette and now ignoring his dad.

An English version of the comic was eventually posted to 9GAG and from there it was spread throughout various subreddits and Instagram accounts ever since. Here are a few different versions of the meme including the original comic and a blank template.
