1960-Rome. The Soviet Union dominated at these games winning 32 medals more than their budding Cold War rival, the United States. -

1964-Innsbruck. In a 12 year span, Innsbruck, Austria hosted two Olympic games. The only other host to do so in such a short amount of time? Athens at the turn of the century. -

1968-Mexico City. Mexico City barely edged out Detroit as host city. Good thing too. In 1967, the Motor City had the worst riots the country had seen since the Civil War. -

1972-Munich. Of course, what most remember about the Munich games was the tragic death of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the hands of Black September. Perhaps the saddest moment in Olympic game history. -

1980-Moscow. As a protest to the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the U.S. refused to send athletes to Moscow. -

1984-Sarajevo. Unfortunately, many of the Olympic venues here were ravaged during a decades long civil war. -

1988-Calgary. How dare you forget Cool Runnings, aka the Jamaican bobsled team. -

1992-Barcelona. Most people remember Barcelona for the Dream Team but it was the EUN Russian unified team that were the stars of the show winning 112 medals. -

1994-Lillehammer. Often referred to as the forgotten games as it occurred only two years after Albertville. -

1996-Atlanta. Muhammad Ali was asked to the light at the torch in these games in what was arguably its most memorable moment. -
