This is a 30 million-year-old limestone cave inhabited by an entire colony of twinkling glow worms. -

The creatures are even the subject of a nursery rhyme Kiwi kids learn when they're little. -

Arachnocampa luminosa is a species of fungus gnat native to New Zealand. -

The species, which is bioluminescent in both the larval and Imago stages, is typically found in wet caves and grottoes. -

Many photographer's have spent the night in these caves. -

It's a little eerie, but there are worse places to spend the night, right? -

The worms produce a series of translucent strings that flies and insects get caught up in - much like a spiders web. -

It is thought that the insects that they catch get confused with the night sky when they see the glow worms and fly up into the roof of the cave. -
