We just love to give cities weird little nicknames. For example, we all know that Paris is "the city of love."

Philadelphia. While in the Navy (Canadian) doing some sightseeing during a stop on our way to PR (Rosie Roads), we were jumped by a group of teens, not far from the Liberty Bell. The chase only ended when we were within sight of our ship. In all my world travels I have never been chased, like in the movies. I’ve been to some dodgy ports of call, but nothing compares to Philadelphia.-u/Dewey081

It would take too long to fully explain Detroit, but essentially Detroit has gone from the 4th most populous city in the US to the 25th, losing 2/3 of its population between 1950 and 2020.There are many reasons - crime, racism, the 1967 riot, the decline of the US auto industry, a crooked and shady city government, banking regulations that favored the suburbs, the worst school system in the nation, the war on drugs and mass incarceration, etc. Almost everyone with money left the city and all that was left was poor people. While the downtown and midtown areas have started to recover, there are still hundreds of deserted buildings and thousands of deserted homes throughout the city. Recovery is especially hard because taxes are high in order to sustain such a large city, so most of the area’s population remains outside the city.-u/chriswaco

Camden, NJ
Ah, Camden. Twenty years ago I remember the advice was if you have to go to Camden at night, the stop signs are optional. And from experience, this was very true, even though I was a teenager driving a not very nice car. I came in there obeying the stop signs, people would come up and just try to open the car doors. Noooope.-u/UnfairCanary
