A fisherman who managed to survive 15 months lost at sea is being sued for US$1 million by the family of his dead colleague, who are accusing him of committing cannibalism with their son.

Salvador Alvarenga, 36, is the only man known to have survived for over a year at sea.

He went missing with Ezequiel Cordoba, after setting sail from Mexico for a fishing trip when a storm swept them 6,700, miles from shore.

They both allegedly survived by eating birds and fish and drinking rainwater. Unfortunately, one of the birds made Cordoba sick, and eventually killed him.

Alvarenga says he kept his promise as long as he could, but when the corpse started to talk back to him, he believed it was time to throw it overboard. He was losing his mind.

Before he died, he made Alvarenga promise that he will keep his corpse and give it to his mother.

Miraculously, Alvarenga managed to survive. His boat floated onto a reef at Ebon Atoll, where he was found by locals who helped him clean up.

After a few years, he decided to write a book about his horrific experience. However, this brought him a lot of enemies.

His lawyer sued him for US$1 million dollars after he signed a book deal and switched firms.

And then his colleague’s family also sued him for another US$1 million dollars for allegedly killing and eating their son.
