The British summertime isn't known for blistering temperatures, but things got a little heated in central London in September when the contoured window panes of the new 'Walkie Talkie' tower still under construction were found to be concentrating direct sunlight and bouncing it onto the street below. The reflected beams were believed to have blistered paintwork, damaged tiles and fabric in the buildings opposite, and in one case caused the wing mirror of a parked Jaguar to melt. A temporary sunscreen was eventually put in front of the building, a 313 million project designed by Uruguayan Rafael Vinoly.
