Comic book readers and historians have come up with four main ages for comics. This was determined by the characters, plot lines, drawings, and size of the comic books. The four eras are the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and the Modern Age. Looking around there is varied thinking on when each age started. My source for this top 10 has the Modern A -

#7. Spawn #185 (2008) The Certified Guaranty Company census only has 19 copies of this sketch cover comic on record. Record sale: $3,800 Minimum value: $50 -

#6. Elseworlds 80-Page Giant #1 (CGC Grade: 10) (1999) The rare 10.0 grade by the CGC may have blown up the price. That said, this comic is selling for over $700 if it has a grade of 9.8. Record sale: $4,700 (CGC Grade: 10) High-quality sale: $720 (CGC Grade: 9.8) Minimum value: $90 -
7.
#5. Spawn #1 (1992) This regular edition is all over the map when it comes to value. Nearly two million copies of this comic was sold. There are six copies in the CGC census with a grade of 10. Another 66 copies of this comic have a 9.9 grade and there are nearly 6,000 graded at 9.8. All that to say, if you want this comic, don’t think it’s rare if you see a high CGC grade. Record sale: $4,850 (CGC Grade: 9.9) and $140 (CGC Grade: 9.8) Minimum value: $1 -

#4. Spider-Man Collectible Classics #1 (1998) This comic is often referred to as the Chromium Edition of Amazing Spider-Man #300. With the addition of shiny foil on the front and back cover, this is a 1998 reprint of a 1988 cover by Todd McFarlane. Record sale: $5,500 (CGC Grade: 9.9) and $1,000 (CGC 9.8) Minimum value: $100 -

10.
#2. The Walking Dead #1 (2003) This is the first issue in this comic book series turned into a television show. A 9.8 copy of this comic was once sold for nearly $3K. A year later a 9.8 copy was sold for $2K. I think the person who purchased this comic for its record sale may have some buyer’s remorse in their future. Record sale: $20,000 (CGC Grade: 9.9) Minimum value: $250 -
11.
#1. Amazing Spider-Man #667 (2011) This Gabriele Dell’Otto variant cover was sold on a 1:100 ratio. That means comic book shops had to order 100 copies of the standard cover to get one of the variant covers. This comic was released with little fanfare and few variant covers were sold. Only 48 copies have been graded in the CGC census. Record sale: $20,000 Minimum value: $2,500
