Every year, there’s some new art piece that comes out and makes us question why we decided to spend our lives working normal jobs. While I’ve got nothing against contemporary art (and making a shitton of money from it), I think it’s fair to say that even those in the field have raised an eyebrow or two at some of the pieces garnering attention, and riches, in recent years.

For example, the piece Comedian by Maurizio Cattelan is literally just a banana duct-taped to a wall — a piece that’s so temporary that it can’t even be sold as-is (buyers simply get instructions and a certificate of authenticity so they can set it up themselves).

Now, the artwork has been bought by a cryptocurrency founder for several million dollars, because of course crypto is involved somehow. Also, he says he’s going to eat it. Great return on investment!
