Video has gone viral of a Tampa Bay Lightning fan assaulting the Florida Panthers' secondary mascot, Viktor E. Ratt.

And before we all jump on the 'This was staged' bandwagon, it definitely wasn't. According to the Miami Herald, a Panthers' spokesperson stated that there is a full investigation and that the altercation was not planned. This lead to commenters wondering what exactly was going on.

One person replied, "The fact it's happening while there's in-play action makes me think it's not staged. This is messed up." While another was curious, "That’s a legit assault. Why is no one doing anything?" Security was nowhere to be found during the incident.

In some angles it looks like Viktor might be holding the fan's jersey. Even so, this would be an overreaction. And just in case we all forgot how mascots work, there's literally a human being inside that costume. The Panthers would go on to defeat the Lightning by a score of 7-1.

Texas didn't have an open container law until September, 2001. Let that sink in.

According to a D Magazine article from 1985, the only real deterrents were thanks to the work of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD.) That same year a law was passed changing the legal drinking age in Texas from 19 to 21. The year before, a law went into effect hiking the fines for a DWI conviction.

Thankfully someone interviewed these lovely Texans during the time these laws were being passed, and got their honest to god opinions on the matter. They did not disappoint.
