The Orcas Attacking Boats Are Having a Little Summer Fun
Nature is fighting back.
Over the past month, there have been more than 20 seemingly organized attacks on boats off of the coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
A gang of killer whales just the other day removed the rudders of a yacht before "tossing it around like a ragdoll" in what read like an Oceans Eleven-style shakedown.
Researchers at Live Science believe the uptick in attacks is just a "fad" and that the whales, who are mimicking each other, will soon "stop" and move on from the behavior.
The Iberian orca is an endangered species and though it dons the "killer whale" nickname, orcas are playful in nature and are most likely just having a little fun.
This is next level. A captain whose boat was attacked by orcas off the coast of Spain got footage of them going direct for the ship’s rudders. pic.twitter.com/oBsDJ54mDv
