There’s a reason people tell you to stay away from flood waters, and it’s not just because they’re gross.

As flooding takes over Southeast Asia, an increasing number of people are learning just how dangerous floods can be. If a storm or flood is significant enough, it can level the landscape of a whole area — or if you’re particularly unlucky, it can steal your garage door from between your fingers.

That’s why most experts advise that you stand back from a flood. These people didn’t heed that advice, and so, they suffered the consequences.
