Solving this problem the American way!

In recent weeks, Americans have been transfixed by a number of drones that have been spotted over New Jersey and neighboring states. While theories about what exactly these drones are vary (planes? stars? aliens?), no one has proposed a solution to the problem — until now.

Seeing all of these drones, Congressman Chris Smith says that he’s introducing a bill that would allow local law enforcement to, uh, “take care” of drones whenever they’re spotted. How would they do that? You already know — just shoot those alien buggers down!

It’s an interesting idea, but I feel like it’s going to result in a lot of hobbyists saying a quick goodbye to their DJIs.

Sheriff Says They Observed 50 Drones, Some of Which Disappeared Into Thin Air

I’m sure it’s fine.

I’m sure it’s fine.

Ever since people started seeing drones over New Jersey, the government has (ineffectively) done its best to try to calm people’s nerves without *really* explaining what’s going on. While they tell us that most cases of drone sightings are just civilian aircraft, there are a few details about these stories that make such a claim difficult to believe.

For example, this sheriff says that he has an officer testifying that he observed 50 drones coming in from over the ocean, and when they tried to follow one, it “disappeared out of thin air.”

Of course, I’m not one to take a police officer’s word at face value, but we’re really going to need some more answers than “Eh, don’t worry about it.”
