TikTokers Aren’t Realizing That the Videos They Post Aren’t Disappearing, and Now They’re Getting Racist
This weekend, TikTok will be banned in the United States. But that doesn’t mean the videos you post are going away.
When the TikTok ban is put into effect this weekend, the app won’t just disappear from your phone. As explained by CBS News, “The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act would make it illegal for app stores from Google or Apple, as well as web-hosting services, to distribute or service TikTok.”
“If the law goes into force on Jan. 19, people in the U.S. who have not already downloaded the TikTok app would no longer be able to access it,” writes Megan Cerullo. “For TikTok users who already have the short-form video app on their devices, it remains to be seen what will happen to the app.”
As you might be able to tell from that description, this doesn’t mean that your internet history will be a clean slate come this weekend — but don’t tell that to the people who are taking to the platform to get reaaaal racist just before the deadline.
