Transcending far beyond a kid's toy, these amazing art pieces were made snapping the popular plastic bricks together, creating scluptures like this one on display during "The Art of the Brick" exhibition by New York Lego artist Nathan Sawaya in Amsterdam, Netherlands, May 27, 2014.

Lego artist Nathan Sawaya transforms Legos into fine art. He gave up his career as a corporate lawyer to dedicate his time to the hugely complex works, which include a dinosaur skeleton 80,020 pieces and convincing renditions of paintings by the likes of Van Gogh and Monet. The New York-based artist only uses basic Lego blocks. Remarkably he also completely avoids specialty pieces with curves or slopes and pieces from Lego's more complex Technic kits.

Sawaya has also included a portrait of his partner, Courtney 4,125 bricks. "Poor Courtney has to tolerate a man who plays with Lego bricks all day," he said.
