33 pics of the evolution of play equipment.... some of the earlier pieces look like death traps (FUN death traps). Madonna's "This Used to be my playground..." pops into my head.

This would definitely not make it on today's playgrounds- can you imagine the lawsuits? -
2.
Kids today would see this as work, it isn't a bright shiny slide. Parents would want the boat removed because it reminds them of immigrants (black, Chinese, Mexican, French, British- any type of immigrant... everyone would be offended) -
3.
Now this is just ridiculous. That bar is so low, it discriminates against tall children who would hit their little heads if they tried to flip over the bar. -
4.
This entire playground exceeds the maximum height limit. Kids could get seriously, terribly injured. KNOCK IT DOWN! Put lots of padding and a 4 foot slide. Ahhh, much better. -
5.
The cement isn't pretty. Knock it down. -
6.
That slide could give whip lash (damn it looks fun). It's also way too tall! Can't have that. Parents must be able to reach their child while standing next to the play piece to pluck poor little Brentwood from the top if he is being bullied. -
7.
OKay this holds too many children and our kids are too large, it would make the set collapse and someone would get hurt (but doesn't it look like fun? Too much fun, knock it down) -
8.
A death trap for sure -
9.
Now this looks fun- but too dangerous. Too many lawsuits and I'll bet it's made of metal which would burn their little shiny hinees. -
10.
A simple piece, but I'm sure it is no longer code for some reason. -
11.
I remember these- sooooo awesome. -
12.
The playgrounds built in the 'late 60s lasted through the 80s when the lawsuits started. -
13.
This does look a bit scary.... -

These were never as fun as they looked -
16.
This sucked too. glad they got rid of this one -
17.
These old gems were some of the best moments -
18.
Too much metal, too many burned bottoms. -
